Criminal investigation involves the study of facts, used to identify, locate and prove the guilt of an accused criminal. A complete criminal investigation can include, searching, interviews, interrogations and evidence collection and preservation and various methods of investigation. Modern-day criminal investigations commonly employ many modern scientific techniques known collectively as forensic science.
A private investigator is a person who can be hired by individuals or groups to undertake investigatory law services. Private detectives/investigators often work for attorneys in civil and criminal cases. The role of an investigator in criminal cases is to collect information from both witnesses and suspects.
Uganda has been plagued by corruption scandals which have left billions of public funds allegedly misappropriated or lost. The latest scandal is the disappearance of millions of donor funds that saw several officials in the prime minister’s office implicated.
The judge cannot pass on a ruling unless the investigation process has proved beyond reasonable doubt that the suspect is guilty. For example unless police comes up with some hard evidence, the murder case would not be sanctioned, and Kanyamunyu – whom the public has already pronounced guilty, would walk free.
